Common Foot Conditions in the Spring

Looking forward to the warm spring and summer? You’ll want to ensure that your feet are in good condition, and ready for anything that this season brings! This means being aware of some of the most common foot ailments that come along with spring, and being extra diligent to help prevent injury or infection.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few foot ailments that seem to be more common in the spring when outdoor activities start picking up once again.

Sprains
Sprains are a common ailment that impacts most people at least once in their lives. Ankle sprains often occur when you land on your foot wrong, applying excess amounts of weight to one side of the foot. They are common for those who are active in sports, but can also occur when running, jumping, or even walking.

Heel Pain
Heel pain is often caused by putting repetitive stress on the back side of your foot –such as constantly pounding your heel on a hard surface when running or walking. In some cases, though, heel pain can also be a sign of a more serious foot condition, and if heel pain persists, you should consult with your doctor.

Toe Pain
Toe pain is often caused by wearing shoes that are ill-fitting; such as flip-flops or sandals. Black toe, another common cause of foot pain, can be caused from sports or other spring related activities. It occurs when your toe becomes bruised. A bruised toe can occur from playing sports such as football or soccer. It can also occur among those who are active walkers, runners or hikers.

While foot pain is a common occurrence, if you are experiencing persistent or severe discomfort, it’s important to have it checked as soon as possible. Be sure to schedule an appointment with your podiatrist if you are experiencing persistent or recurring foot pain.
