With summer just around the corner, people are starting to break out their summer best and put away their coats and winter boots.
While summer is an enjoyable time of year, it’s can be a dangerous time for your feet. Especially if you don’t take precautions.
Summer seems to be the season that many people have foot-related problems. Here are a few things that you should be aware of, that will help you to help keep your feet healthy and happy this summer –and year round.
Unsupportive Shoes
Some of the most common foot issues during the summer months is due to the fact that so many people wear unsupportive shoes. After all, summer is the season for flip flops, right? Unfortunately though, flip flops are terrible for your feet. Wearing them every day can be especially problematic. These shoes offer no support, and can cause foot problems, and even back pain. Wearing them too often can even cause permanent damage to your feet. As a side note: they can also increase your risk of tripping. Instead of flip flops, consider picking up a pair of high-quality athletic sandals that are comfortable and offer more support.
Picking Up Germs
Another common problem that occurs during the summer months is the fact that you can easily pick up germs since you are wearing open shoes. Be sure to wash your feet every night if you have been out and about, and again, avoid flip flops –which leave your foot especially vulnerable to fungal, bacterial, and viral infections.
Sweaty Feet
Feet tend to sweat more in the summer months, and this can lead to multiple issues. Not only are sweaty feet highly uncomfortable, they also open the door to infections. To help combat this, you should try to choose socks that pull moisture away from the skin, keep your feet clean, and give them a chance to breathe every night.
