Top Tips for Aching Feet

Aching feet don’t always mean that something serious is wrong. Sometimes, it simply indicates overuse or improper footwear.

Our feet put up with a lot throughout the day, and sometimes they just need a break. Aside from just kicking back and putting your feet up, here are a few other things that you can do to help ease the ache and give your feet some extra care.

Soaking
Aches and pains are common if you have spent all day on your feet, or have done a significant amount of walking. If your feet are sore, try a warm soak to relax the muscles and relieve the pain.

Stretching
Gently stretching your feet can help to relieve the tightness and relax them. Stretching your feet can help to keep them limber, and can even help to prevent foot injuries. A beneficial stretch is the towel stretch. Sit on the floor with your legs in front, and place a towel around your toes. Gently pull the towel towards you and hold for 15 to 30 seconds before releasing. Try to do three sets.

A Foot Massage
A foot massage can help relieve the pressure in your feet as well. Putting oil or lotion on the soles of your feet and gently applying pressure to the sore areas can be beneficial. In most cases, you should focus on the plantar fascia area of your foot, which is the area that runs along the arch, from the ball of your foot to your heel. Working this area can help relieve the tension in your muscles.

Wear Better Shoes
Often, the culprit of achy feet is shoes that fit improperly, or footwear that offers little support. If your feet are consistently sore by the end of the day, consider getting a better pair of shoes. Shoes that offer support, and absorb the shock of impact from the ground can help your feel to feel better, and ache less at the end of the day.
