Prepping Your Feet for Spring

For most of the winter, your feet have most likely been covered in thick socks and hidden in heavy winter boots. Our feet are all but forgotten about until the sun begins to shine a little longer each day and we start to think about wearing shorts and sandals once again.

Before going from boots to sandals, you’ll want to take a few minutes to give your feet some TLC to ensure that they’re looking –and feeling their best in time for spring. Here’s a look at some simple ways that you can get your feet in top shape for the season.

Exfoliate

Soaking and then exfoliating your feet is a great way to get started. Exfoliating takes the old skin off and allows the new, fresh skin to shine. You should also take a pumice stone to your feet to help remove stubborn calluses –but never cut attempt to cut calluses with sharp objects. Some calluses might require a few rounds of callous removal before they’re smooth, but keep at and you’ll soon have soft and smooth skin once again.

Toenails and Cuticles

Giving your toenails some attention is also a good idea. Be sure to clip the nails straight to help prevent ingrown toenails. Your cuticles will also most likely need some attention, and you might have to push them back to help create a neat and healthy nail.

Moisturize

Finally, your feet will also need to be moisturized. Keeping your feet moisturized will help keep them looking soft and healthy, and will prevent them from becoming dry and cracked, which could open the door to infection. If your feet are especially dry, you might want to start by applying some heavy moisturizer to them and wearing socks overnight. This will leave you with super soft skin in the morning. Just take care not to do this every night –since it’s important to let your feet breathe as well.

Following the above tips will help you to get your feet into great shape –allowing you to put your best foot forward this spring.
